Before you buy
Big Walk on Switch 2
It is the compromised version, and the two outlets that reviewed it could not agree on how much that costs you.
Framerate
30 FPS target
Both reviews describe a 30 FPS target. Nintendo Everything calls it locked and untroubling; Nintendo Life says it does not always hold, particularly around the towers. Nintendo Life (secondary source, opens in a new tab) Nintendo Everything (secondary source, opens in a new tab) checked 6 Aug 2026
Two reviews, two readings
Both scored the game well. They differ on how much weight to put on the technical compromises, which is exactly the thing you want to know before buying it here.
Nintendo Life
8/10“Pop-in is rampant, shadows are crunchy and low-res, and lighting doesn't hit as well.”
Calls the visual hit massive next to other platforms, and reports a co-op partner hitting a bug that disabled lighting entirely. Still scores it 8/10: "It's not enough to spoil anything major, but it does tarnish what is otherwise an outstanding bit of media."
Nintendo Everything
4/5“Some of the vegetation also looks a little low-quality from afar.”
Says it runs fine, treats the 30 FPS lock as no great matter for this kind of game, and notes crusty textures and noticeable pop-in without weighting them heavily.

What they agree on
Where they agree: the Switch 2 build targets 30 FPS, draw distance is cut, vegetation and textures are visibly lower quality, and pop-in is noticeable — docked or handheld alike. Neither reviewer thought any of it broke the game. Nintendo Life (secondary source, opens in a new tab) Nintendo Everything (secondary source, opens in a new tab) checked 6 Aug 2026
So the shape of it is settled even if the verdict is not: this is a visibly reduced build, and it is still the same game underneath. Where the two part company is whether “reduced” means “fine, it is a walking game” or “a shame, given how it looks elsewhere.”
Which of them is right for you
It depends on something neither reviewer can know, which is whether you have a choice. Big Walk is a game you play with a specific group of people on whatever hardware they own.
- Switch 2 is where your friends are. Buy it there. Both reviewers scored it well despite everything above, and a group you can actually assemble beats a prettier version you play alone, which is not a thing this game offers.
- You could play it on a PC instead. Then do. The visual gap is the one thing both reviews describe the same way, and crossplay means you lose nothing socially by being on a different machine from the rest of the group.
- Someone in the group has a PS5. It is free there on PS Plus until 31 August. How to claim it.
On the platform score gap
Big Walk's review averages differ by platform, with PC highest. We do not publish those aggregate numbers, because the console averages rest on very few reviews and we cannot re-verify them. But the reason for a gap is not mysterious, and it does not require guessing: reviewers on Switch 2 wrote about a lower framerate and a visible visual downgrade, in a way reviewers on PC did not.
That is a description of what reviews say, not an explanation of how any score was calculated. We have not seen an outlet set out its own reasoning on that.
What is identical everywhere
- Two to twelve players, with full crossplay to PC, Mac and PS5.
- Proximity voice chat, and no single-player mode on any platform.
- The host holds the save, whichever machine they are on.
- Mouse mode is supported on Switch 2, alongside controllers.

Common questions
How does Big Walk run on Switch 2?
It targets 30 FPS with a shortened draw distance, lower-quality vegetation and textures, and noticeable pop-in. Reviewers disagreed on how much that matters: Nintendo Everything said it runs fine, Nintendo Life said the framerate does not always hold and the visual hit is significant.
Is Big Walk 60 FPS on Switch 2?
No. Both reviews describe a 30 FPS target on Switch 2.
Is the Switch 2 version of Big Walk worth it?
Both outlets that reviewed it scored it well, 8/10 from Nintendo Life and four stars from Nintendo Everything, despite their technical criticisms. If Switch 2 is where your group plays, the game itself survives the compromises. If you have a choice of platform, the PC version is the better-looking one.
Can Switch 2 players play with PC and PS5 players?
Yes. Big Walk has crossplay across every platform it released on, so a Switch 2 player joins the same session as PC, Mac and PS5 friends.
Comparing handhelds? Big Walk on Steam Deck is Verified by Valve but wants its settings turned down: a different flavour of the same trade-off.
