Getting a group going
Crossplay, join codes and who holds the save
Crossplay is the easy part. The thing to plan around is that all your progress lives on one person's machine.
Crossplay
Supported
Every platform in the same session. The FAQ's whole answer is “Sure! Big Walk has crossplay support, so players on different systems can play together.” Big Walk (House House) (primary source, opens in a new tab)
If anyone bought it on the Mac App Store
That version does not support Game Center, so they cannot be joined through a friends list at all. They have to use a Join Code. It is a one-line aside in the official FAQ and it is the sort of thing that eats twenty minutes of a first session. Big Walk (House House) (primary source, opens in a new tab)
Where you can buy it
- PC (Windows), via Steam
- Mac, via Steam and the Mac App Store
- PlayStation 5, via PlayStation Store
- Nintendo Switch 2, via Nintendo eShop

Two ways to get into a session
Through your platform friends list
If you have added each other as friends on the service you are each playing on, the host's session shows up for you to join directly. If a friend's game is not appearing, that missing friendship is the usual reason. Big Walk (House House) (primary source, opens in a new tab)
The exception is the Mac App Store version, which has no Game Center support and therefore no friends-list joining at all. Anyone on that version needs a Join Code every time. Big Walk (House House) (primary source, opens in a new tab)
With a join code
The simpler route, and the one that works across platforms without adding anyone. The host reads out a code and everyone else enters it.
- The host finds it in the corner of the host menu when starting a session.
- Mid-session, it is under Session Details in the in-game menu.
- The host can change the password from that same Session Details screen.
- A fresh code is generated every session. Last night's code is dead.

The host holds everything
The official FAQ describes the host as “the keeper of the save game and all of your progress”, and saving happens automatically on their machine. Big Walk (House House) (primary source, opens in a new tab)
The consequence is worth saying plainly: if the host cannot make it, the group cannot continue. There is no shared cloud save that another player can pick up. When you pick a host, pick the person most likely to be available every time, and ideally the one with the most reliable connection, since everyone else's experience runs through them.
There is no matchmaking
No public games list, no pairing with strangers. Big Walk is built for the same group over multiple sessions, so every session starts with someone you already know. Big Walk (House House) (primary source, opens in a new tab)
Common questions
Does Big Walk have crossplay?
Yes. The official FAQ confirms crossplay support, so players on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 can play together in the same session.
How do you join a friend in Big Walk?
Either through your platform friends list, if you have added each other there, or with a Join Code from the host. The host finds the code in the corner of the host menu, or under Session Details in the in-game menu.
Does the Big Walk join code change?
Yes. A new join code is generated every time the host starts a session, so a code from a previous evening will not work.
Why can I not join my friend on the Mac App Store version of Big Walk?
The Mac App Store version does not support Game Center, so joining through a friends list is not available for it. Ask the host for a Join Code instead — that route works from every version.
Who keeps the save file in Big Walk?
The host. Progress saves automatically to whoever is hosting, which means the group continues from where it left off only when that same person hosts again.
Someone in the group cannot be heard once you are in? Work through the voice chat troubleshooter.
